Last lake weekend and the Hiawatha

September where did you come from?! With harvest in full swing, Dusty was swamped trying to get all the wheat cut between rain storms. JJ and I took the weekend to go to the lake with my family. It was a great weekend and Jayney loved having extra time with Grammi Kim, Captain Steve. Aunt Alli, Aunt Lexi. Unfortunately Dusty, Chris, and Jordan all had other work or commitments So they couldn't come. It did make the time at the cabin seem just like a weekend when we were growing up, except we mostly got along! JJ made up for the lack of whining from us sisters with her own special toddler version for our listening pleasure.
For years my family has talked about going to ride the Hiawatha trail. So since this was finally a weekend all of us were available it seemed like perfect timing! The ride was beautiful and bumpy! Being towards the end of the season it had gotten fairly rough. Even those on mountain bikes and wider tires noted that by the end of the trail they felt like they had been bounced quite a bit. I had borrowed Dust's dual sport and the thinner style tires made it a rough ride. Plus I was riding a bike that was MUCH bigger frame than what I was used to so I felt a bit stretched reaching for the handlebars and pedals too. It all made for a good excuse to make a few extra stops to take in all the breathtaking views! At least, I didn't have to pull JJ in her trailer too! Grammi Kim kept company with JJ, towing the little chatter box for the whole ride. The only time JJ was quiet was in the long tunnel and at the end of the ride when she passed out for a little nap. Apparently the bumps were not bothering her at all!
